The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended the inauguration ceremony of the National Campaign of Somalia’s Green Face in the South West Region at the South West State Presidential Center in Baidoa. The president emphasized the importance of trees for our land and the threat they pose to the country due to erosion and environmental degradation has made it difficult to unite for the safety of the Somali people by instructing the regional and district administrations in the Bay region to encourage the people to create trees so that to win the National Plan for a Green Somalia.
He said “Our goal is a green and prosperous Somalia, the drought and the lack of rain that has come to us is the fate of God but it is attributed to the lack of trees and the degradation of the environment. The administration of Bay Region and Baidoa District should take the lead in planting trees and encourage the people to plant more trees”.
The launch ceremony for the National Initiative of Somalia Green in the South West Region was attended by the Chairman of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia Mr. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor, the President of the South West Region Mr. Abdi Azis Hassan Mohamed, the former President of the South West Region Mr. Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, Federal and State Ministers, Members of Cabinet, Members of Parliament and eminent members from GCSAYN Somalia, youth of Baidoa attended the Launch of Somalia Green (Soomaaliya Cagaaran) in Baidoa. The President encouraged the environment and Climate change intiatives to strengthen their efforts for creating climate adaptation and Awareness programs across the country. A huge applause to the team who has participated this event to represent GCSAYN Somalia.
